Discussion:
IE 6 won't access a particular page

I recently built a new computer and installed a fresh copy of Win XP on a new
hard drive and it installed IE 6. I know that it has since done some
updating, but now I can't log onto the Chase.com website. I can get to their
home page, but once I put in my user name and password, it errors out on me
every time I have tried it so far. It says Internet Explorer caused an error
..., and I have to choose to Send report or Don't sent.

How can I fix this? I can access this site from other computers in the
house, just not this main one.

Thanks,
Shona

Hi,
XP version- SP1, SP2, SP3?
From IE> Help> About, which version of IE? (e.g. 7.0.5730.11)
Running a third-party firewall or security suite?

Version IE 6.2.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.080814-1233

I am running McAfee but have been running in previously when I was able to
access this particular page. I suspect it is an IE issue but not quite sure
how to fix it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Shona

Hi,
1. If the McAfee program includes a firewall, make sure it's not blocking
port 443.

2. Clear the Temporary Internet Files.

Well one possibility is you have a corrupt file in your IE cache. IE stores
files in a cache so when you pull up a website it pulls up the cached not the
brand new website. So let us try clearing the cache and see if that helps.
It might. In IE 6 go to tools, internet options and on the general tab you
will see options fot deleting items such as deleting temporay internet files
history and cookies. Go through and delete all of these. Then close out IE
and reopen it and try again. I hope this resolves your issue. Please let me
know so I can improve my services.
