My isp is upgrading its software;could that be the reason I cannot download
newsgroups. My settings are confirmed by my isp but newsgroups are still
unable to be downloaded; they start then my log on box reappears repetitively.

Grampy Pete,
If you ISP is Comcast, they are having server problems with the
authenication process, that connects their customers to GigaNews, at least
it is for me in SE Michigan.
