Hi,
Which version of Windows? (Including SP level- SP1, SP2, etc.)
Which version of Internet Explorer?

Try clearing the Temporary Internet Files

From IE> Tools> Manage add-ons, is the Shockwave Flash plug-in enabled?

Is this page able to display your version of Flash Player?

Hi,
As suggested by Tim, disable any third-party firewall or security suite to
see if that program is blocking the Flash content.

Try placing news.bbc.co.uk in Trusted Sites- Internet Options> Security...

Since the problem happens for both IE and FF,
I believe the fix should be in ZoneAlarm but
I don't know what ZoneAlarm setting needs to be changed.

Well, it turned out to be ZoneAlarm ... sorta.
Clicking on "Shutdown ZoneAlarm" brings up a prompt asking
"Are you sure you want to quit?" The video will start working before
I answer the prompt. So, I just click "No" to keep ZoneAlarm open.
Whatever.

Ver 2.0.0.20 . The video plays right in the webpage.

I have zonealarm, and it didn't ask for anything new.

I'm not using any other proxy. I'm using Verizon DSL.

I haven't checked my web security levels, but I hope to in the next

Well, I see you got it working, before you replied to me, so I won't

It turns out that pretending to shutdown ZoneAlarm worked for
only a very brief period. It does not work consistently.
I don't understand it. Adobe Flash Player can be troublesome.

| It turns out that pretending to shutdown ZoneAlarm worked for

| I don't understand it. Adobe Flash Player can be troublesome.
| Youtube seems better.

There seems to be two things going on at...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7806756.stm

It causes firewall squawking, & it has a Flash Player script that is bad
enough to crash Flash. I think the site is poorly written or expects a
higher Flash Player version. But mine -- Adobe Flash Player 9.0 r124 --
I think is as high as I can go.

The squawking is related to...
http://www.akamai.com/
Just clicking that link causes Kerio to ask permission...!...

'Internet Explorer' from your computer wants to connect to 96.17.106.39,
port 1935

The site seems to work anyhow after denying it. I think it's probably a
legit site-- but I don't like it!

At a quick glance I see the release notes says it's even v9.0.152.0 now,

I still prefer to use the v9 series on WXPro as well

Adams flash link works fine here, but don't forget in the trusted zone

I meant of course using the Trusted Zone ability which is added by
MS's own PowerTweaks install, for its convenience of adding websites to it
with one click, otherwise all else is in the Internet Zone where things are
set very strict. You know all that though.

Yep, that's how mine is set for all the sites put in the Trusted Zone.

That bbc link Adam posted works fine for me but on XP and I've not tried
SE. It's a 20 mb file at low quality or 70 mb in high quality, and so of
course it's not practical to watch it with dialup.

You can download the video file itself, or cop it out of your TIF folder,
or use a get_video... program, etc, etc.

Your You Tube link works for me too, but again it's a very large download
on HQ so on slow connections it takes a LOT of time to cache it.

Okay, just wanted to pop in, thanks, bye now.

I think my settings are fine, because the one Bill posted...
http://youtu.be/0dclvUitir4
...which, I guess, is the same video, does begin to work. It's so
slow -- looking more like still images -- that I grew too impatient to
see whether eventually it would crash. After clicking for "high
quality", indeed it did crash-- but differently! DrWatson was unable to
trap it. It was a crash of IE-- not of Flash Player!

OK. I thought that was fine. Of course, avast! will scan all the TIFs
coming in. So, I feel I am safe enough set like that in the Internet
Zone.

My belief is it won't work on SE with IE. MM got it to work with
Firefox.

I guess. Yet, some videos on some sites do work well enough to watch--
or, at least, that's how I recall it. Haven't seen a watchable one in
quite a while, though-- but I don't really go looking for them. Yea,
that's right, if I can find/get one out of TIFs, it works really nice.

All right. I'm sure the security adjustments of v.151 made all of this
worthwhile for me. Thanks to you, Chauvin.

Yes, it's the same video as far as I can tell.
I have DSL so speed is not a problem, except for "high quality".
If you're using dial-up, speed might be icky.

Yep-- pretty icky. But at least that one will only drive me nuts for

I don't like a site that causes Kerio to ask permission! The ARIN WHOIS
report on 96.17.106.12 is...
OrgName: Akamai Technologies
OrgID: AKAMAI
Akamai runs a number of localized content server farms. Very useful for
companies who don't want to maintain their own bandwidth. Pay Akamai for
just the bandwidth that they need at any given time, and Akami puts the
content on regional server farms. You get the content from the closest farm
to you.

Kerio asks permission because you aren't going to the host site, but to a
localized mirror. That is not a weakness in the site, but the strength of
Kerio; it only trusts IP addresses you specify. For load balancing servers,
as run by Akamai, you really have no choice. Trust the entire Akamai server
farm, or forget about using sites which prefer to pay less for scalable
bandwidth service from Akamai than for dedicated bandwidth of their own.

I suspected Akamai was legit when the first Google page on it said
nothing of nasty doings. Thanks for the detail about what it is used
for. Sounds like -- legit as it may be -- it can be put to ill use
depending on the content a site has uploaded to it. But a nasty site I
guess can do its dirty work with or without making use of Akamai for
storage/transmission. But I'm STILL not sure I like connecting to one
site-- & having IT connect me to another!

I've sworn to MEB & others to someday fully understand my Kerio rules.
However, I've got to do my taxes soon & that day must continue to wait.
As far as IE, the only rule I've got that specifically mentions it is...

Protocol: TCP
Direction: Outgoing
Local Endpoint
Port Type: Any port
Application: c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe
Remote Endpoint
Address Type: Any address
Port Type: Single port
Port number: 80
Rule Valid: Always
Action: Permit
Log when rule matches: Checked
Display an alert: Unchecked

I believe that is the rule that allows me to use FTP type sites. I
suppose, if Akamai had used its port 80 instead of port 1935, it could
have had its will with my IE, also supposing it was using the TCP
protocol. (I didn't notice which protocol was attempted.)

|| Akamai runs a number of localized content server farms. Very useful
|| for companies who don't want to maintain their own bandwidth. Pay
|| Akamai for just the bandwidth that they need at any given time, and
|| Akami puts the content on regional server farms. You get the content

The protocol attempted indeed was TCP. This time I had time to permit
the connection to Akamai-- but Flash Player quickly crashed just the
same. I will try the new version of the player as suggested elsewhere.
But if these things are going to play as slow as they do on my Dial-Up
46666 bps connection-- it probably isn't worth it anyhow!
