A technical support assistant with my DSL provider, AT&T, just had me
uninstall Internet Explorer Ver. 7 because he said it does not work well with
Windows XP. Can anyone confirm that? And can I install IE Ver. 6?

I've been running version seven on my Windows XP system for several
weeks without any difficulty. I was postponing that change on the "If it
isn't broke..." theory, but decided to try it out when I heard that
version 8 was in beta testing.

I don't know where to type my response....
Thanks for your response. I guess I haven't really had trouble with it
until I had this issue gettting online. It turned out to be a line problem.
We just had to replace a phone line. But by then I had uninstalled IE Ver. 7
and all it's seven upgrades. Now, when I go to IE, it want to help me with
Ver. 7 all over again. I think I'll go ahead an reinstall it since it was
not the problem.

I am an 'at&t Yahoo! HSI' user (you don't specify which, of the three, AT&T
DSL services you have), with Windows XP (MCE 2005, and Home Edition), SP3 on
each. MS Internet Explorer 7 works fine.

A better resource for support issues with AT&T than Tier 1 telephone is the
AT&T forum at DSL Reports:

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/ilec,pcb~also=sbcdirect+ilec,am+ilec,swbell+ilec,snet+ilec,bels+uverse

You should select the appropriate region for your service. Read the intro at
the top of the page you select; AT&T's concept of "Midwest" differs from the
common usage.

Uninstalling IE7 automatically returns the machine to IE6.
