I am having an issue of a user setting the history to 1 day instead of the
default 20 days. I would like to disable the ability for this user to change
the History. I have followed these steps that I have found over and over
through my search...
Open Registry Editor: Click Start | Click Run | Type regedit | Press Enter

Navigate to the following key (if it doesn’t exist, create it):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel

To lock the “Clear History” button, you’ll have to modify the DWORD value
called “History” (without quotes). If the value “History” does not already
exist, right click in the right section of the window and select New, DWORD
Value. Name it “History”.

Now that the value “History” is ready, double click on it to change its
value data from 0 to 1. Click OK. Immediately, the “Clear History” button in
Internet Explorer should be disabled (it turns gray). If Internet Explorer is
already open, you might need to restart it to see the changes.

I have tried these steps but the 5 XP SP2 workstations I have checked do not
have these keys. After Microsoft the only thing below that is Certificates.
Is there another way to disable this button?
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Debra

The keys are not there by default. The information you quoted says "if
it doesn't exist, create it". You must create it as indicated.

To make it easy, use the .reg file here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 101 left hand side.
The file is:

Download it, right-click it and select Merge
