When a repair of ie6 is performed the security settings are changed to
"custom" instead of default. What tweaks are different for the security
zones other than the default setting and where can I read up on this topic
in Microsoft KB or TechNet articles?

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., Win98SE; WinME) when posting
to this newsgroup.

What led you to do a "repair of IE6" and how did you do it?

I use win98se;
I was trying to resolve a problem with a missing quikview viewer that was
enabled in windows components>accessories but for some unknown reason failed
to be on the application drop down menu. Later I was instructed that this
was not the way to reinstall that item and to uncheck the component>reboot
recheck the component and that worked.
The reason I am interested in that "customized" IE setting is because I use
the slider often when surfing and have many websites in Restricted sites
zone, which I had tweaked all disabled. The only other tweaks I had used in
Internet zone were fonts and iframe disabled. Also, I have used an extended
security configuration as a "customized" IE. Lastly, I just wanted to know
where to read about that topic and did not find anything in MS KB.

I think you and I have discussed this previous, Jim. [no comment]

Overinstalling IE6 in Win98 (only!) is preferable to doing a repair, Jim.

First, close *everything* via CTRL+ALT+DEL except Windows Explorer (includes
your AV program, Scheduled Tasks, Screensaver, and going offline).

Start | Run | (type in) IE6Setup.exe | [OK]. Select Minimal - Custom;
Select all the parts you use (e.g., Outlook Express) but none that you
didn't originally download, and overinstall. Should take about 2 minutes.
Reboot the computer.

Now, with AV and all other running processes still closed, check in at
Windows Update for additional updates and patches you may need.
