This question must be asked a thousand times daily but I can't seem to find
any help with it.

I am changing computers and would like to take my old email account with all
the addresses and messages to the new PC. I have entered all the details as
requested in the 'set up' series of windows but still no messages appear in
my in/read boxes from the old computer. How do I gain access to them from the
new PC?

As for addresses I have downloaded them to a CD for transfer but the new PC
won't load them into the new address book.

Thanks in advance

Justin.

It's pretty difficult answering you question when you've told us so
little about your email account.

It may not be prudent, but lets assume that, since you're inquiring in a
group about a web browser, you're using a web based email client. I've
several such accounts on as many servers and all of them have contact
and message stores on the mail service's server. I can use any of
several browsers on my own computer or at public terminals like those in
libraries and web cafes to read messages (old and current) and use my
contacts lists. All I need to do is log onto the remote server with my
user name AND password.

However, many people use a mail client application like Thunderbird,
Outlook Express, Outlook (not "Express" - the mail client in Microsoft
Office) or windows Live Mail. Often those applications store the
contacts list and/or messages on the computer's hard drive. With SOME
settings they might leave duplicate stores on the mail server. We can't
be specific about how to transfer those files to another computer
without knowing which application you are using (IF you are using client
based email). You MIGHT be able to use an export/import option OR a
backup/restore option in the mail client's menu system.

If you are using mail client software produced by Microsoft (like
Outlook or Outlook Express) look in this server's group listing for
groups specific to the client you are using.
