Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window
you will see these Options:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs
| Advanced .
Security tab then click on Custom level Button.
Security Settings -Internet Zone
\/ Downloads
V Automatic prompting for file downloads
(*) Disable
Open the Windows media player and check this setting:
Click Tools >> Options >> Security tab and see these settings:
Content
[ ] Run Script commands when present << uncheck this
[√] Run script commands and rich media streams when a web page << check this
option
[ ] Play enhanced content that uses web pages without prompting << Uncheck
this Box
[ ] Show Local captions when present <, Uncheck this
Click [Apply] then [OK]
Hit F5 to refresh and try the link, does it prompt you to save run/cancel?

But this doesnt solves my promlem as some link takes us to another server's
link and then start downloading and your trick wont do anything only just
giving the option to save target as *.htm file.

I running windows Vista and IE7.
My problem is whenever i click on any .mp3 file link to get it download it
starts playing in windows Media Player11 instesd of giving download prompt.
Pls hep me out.....

Don't click on the link. Right-click and select Save Target As.
