It is AVG Free and a custom install to avoid Link Scanner. A full scan is
scheduled daily and nothing has been found as yet. I do not have a firewall
since I have read about all the related problems and I have enough already.
The first time I noticed the popup blocking problem was on a site that I have
been using regularly for quite some time. It is an MLS (multiple listing
service) for real estate. On this site, when clicking the address of a
property, a small window opens of a google map, or at least it did on my old
PC. Now when I click on the address, a small sliver of a window in the upper
left hand corner of the screen attempts to open, then a beep is heard from
the processor, not the speakers, and the small window is blocked and closes.
Depressing the Ctl key does not prevent blocking. Since I have not installed
any popup blocker, I can only assume that it was included with Windows.
However, on my old PC I never had this problem and never heard any sounds
from the processor itself.
Post by PA Bear [MS MVP]AVG Free or AVG Internet Security (paid)? Did you do a default or custom
install of the AVG app?
Why no firewall, Rita? It's really not safe these days to connect to the
internet or any networks without one.

Post by RitaI am using Win2K SP4 with AVG version 8 antivirus and antispyware. No other
antivirus or antispyware has ever been installed. This PC was purchased with
no operating system. I installed Win2K SP4 and all updates which does not
include a firewall.
Post by PA Bear [MS MVP]Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Win2K SP4; Win98)
when posting to this newsgroup.
What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? Is more than one installed? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? Is the Windows Firewall enabled
(WinXP-only)?
Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?

Post by RitaI have all javascript settings enabled on IE6 but wanted popups are still
being blocked. I have no popup blocker installed and no firewall. Please
help. I have copies of screenprints which show the activity taking place in
the temporary file at the time of a blocked popup if this would help.
