IE crashes when opening Sharepoint Files - no Sharepoint designer

My boss' PC crashes whenever she opens a linkin Sharepoint, but only when
it's on the left navigational pane, not from a document list.

I've repaired Office (2003), installed Sharepoint Tools, and registered the
owssupp.dll, per our help desk. Nothing worked, and they are out of ideas.

Sharepoint Designer is not installed, according to the add/delete programs
in the control panel. (Other posts suggested removing it)

Any suggestions?

While your syntax is commendable, we can't do squat unless we know the IE
version and full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP1) involved.
