Windows version? Is the machine fully patched at Windows Update? Does this
behavior persist in IE6 and IE7? What anti-virus application or security
suite is installed? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

What anti-virus application and third-party firewall (if any) were you using
before you install ZA Security Suite?

Were you running IE6 or IE7 when this problem started? Assuming IE7, was
your anti-virus application, any anti-spyware applications, and/or any
third-party firewalls enabled when you installed IE7? When you uninstalled
IE7?

Have you posted about this in ZA Forums?
http://forums.zonelabs.com/
http://forums.zonelabs.com/zonelabs/board?board.id=Privacy

Please see the links in this related post:
http://forums.zonelabs.com/zonelabs/board/message?board.id=Privacy&message.id=10077

If all else fails:

See if disabling ZA Firewall AND THEN enabling the Windows Firewall corrects
the problem;

Or (1) uninstall ZA Security Suite via Add/Remove Programs & reboot; (2)
IMMEDIATELY enable the Windows Firewall; (3) install another anti-virus
application (e.g., Avast4 Free) and see if the problems persist.

just for future ref, finally sorted the problem with google.
now works fine like it should of from the start, turns out to be a corrupt
file installed from disk in original setup shell file.
heres the fix:::::::::::::::
Repair Internet Explorer - Method 1

1) From the Start menu, select Search, select All Files and Folders.
2) Select More Advanced Options and place a checkmark beside Search Hidden
Files and Folders option.
3) Ensure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are also checked.
4) In the All or Part of the File Name box, type ie.inf
5) In the Look In drop-down menu, select C: or the letter of the hard drive
that contains the Windows folder.
6) Click the Search button.
7) In the search results pane, find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf
folder.
8) Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.
9) Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.

Repair Internet Explorer - Method 2

1) From the Start menu, select Run.
In the Open field, type sfc /scannow
2) Select the OK button.
3) Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.
4) Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.

For more DETAILED explanation of the scannow facility please read this
article: http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

1. Required reading IMHO before installing IE7:

Sandi's Installation Tips <= Steps #1-8, #10 & #11; take note of #12, then
STOP!
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install
(ignore any references to Vista)

And I strongly recommend using
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.

Alternately, use this Direct Download link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9ae91ebe-3385-447c-8a30-081805b2f90b

Tip: Save the installer to your desktop, do not Run it.

Make *certain* that you check in at Windows Update immediately after
installing IE7 and install any critical updates offered. If Optional
Updates category offers Root Certificates update, I recommend installing it
to take full advantage of IE7's additional security.

thats all very well and good, mate, but the problem originated with ie6 from
fresh install and carried over to ie7 and said earlier.
its got nothing to do with updates or anything else.
thank you for your time, but im considering taking a qualification in google
as they obviously have more information than my aquired microsoft mcse
qualification

I asked several other questions, mate. I also posted several suggestions
you might try.
Post by dannyg1976
i wasnt using any third party software before this mate as its a brand
new install.
i starting to believe that there maybe a problem with the system folder that
was created during install
Post by PA Bear [MS MVP]
What anti-virus application and third-party firewall (if any) were you
using before you install ZA Security Suite?
Were you running IE6 or IE7 when this problem started? Assuming IE7,
was your anti-virus application, any anti-spyware applications, and/or
any third-party firewalls enabled when you installed IE7? When you
uninstalled
IE7?
Have you posted about this in ZA Forums?
http://forums.zonelabs.com/
http://forums.zonelabs.com/zonelabs/board?board.id=Privacy
http://forums.zonelabs.com/zonelabs/board/message?board.id=Privacy&message.id=10077
See if disabling ZA Firewall AND THEN enabling the Windows Firewall
corrects the problem;
Or (1) uninstall ZA Security Suite via Add/Remove Programs & reboot; (2)
IMMEDIATELY enable the Windows Firewall; (3) install another anti-virus
application (e.g., Avast4 Free) and see if the problems persist.

windows xp pro sp2, all updated, does it on both on IE 6 and 7, im
using zonealarm security suite but have never had these problems with
any other
install before, no other third party firewalls or anti viral or spyware
installed other than zonealarm suite which includes firewall, anti virus and
anti spyware
Post by PA Bear [MS MVP]
Windows version? Is the machine fully patched at Windows Update?
Does this behavior persist in IE6 and IE7? What anti-virus
application or security suite is installed? What anti-spyware
applications (other than
Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?

Well, perhaps if you'd told us all the facts in your first post, we may not
have had to do so much guessing.

thats all very well and good, mate, but the problem originated with ie6 from
fresh install and carried over to ie7 and said earlier.
its got nothing to do with updates or anything else.
thank you for your time, but im considering taking a qualification in google
as they obviously have more information than my aquired microsoft mcse
qualification
