Removing IE7 and Re-installing IE6

I have Media Centre Special Edition XP, and have just upgraded this to
XP SP2 on my Toshiba Qosmio. Now I'm getting all kinds of bugs such as
dlls associated with the touch pad. This then crashes whatever editing
I'm doing.

But I have also stupidly just installed IE7. Frankly its a pig's ear.
There are a number of web sites that now fail to load - including my
own website. I'm getting all kinds of Debug script errors.

In particlar when I try to click on a link to an MP3 file the page
errors and starts up the Debugger.

For example:

At: http://www.murphyslore.co.uk

If I click on the example "Tell Me Ma" I get a series of debug
messages which culminates in Object Not Found for this line:

If I simply copy and paste the link to the MP3 file:

into the address field I get the same debug messages.

It seems to me that IE7 is a pig of the first order. I need to junk it
and reinstall IE6. Please can someone advise me. How do I completely
remove IE7 and where can I get IE6?

BTW Firefox has no problems with all of the websites and has yet to
crash.

1. Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE7 in No Add-ons mode:

Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons; or

Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No
add-ons).

2. Does the problem persist if you Reset IE7 Settings (RIES)?

3. If you uninstall (a) IE7 *exactly* per the link below (which
automatically returns you to IE6), (b) all toolbars and (c) all third-party
Windows Themes (including Window Blinds) and do NOT reinstall IE7, does this
behavior persist? If it does, do NOT reinstall IE7.

4. Required reading IMHO before reinstalling IE7:

STOP

I strongly recommend using
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.

Tip: Save the installer to your desktop, do not Run it.

5. Make *certain* that you check in at Windows Update immediately after
reinstalling IE7 to install any critical updates offered. If Optional
Updates category offers Root Certificates update, I recommend installing it
to take full advantage of IE7's additional security.

I get no problems with that in IE7 on XP SP2 here. I did a quick search on
Google for the error you're seeing, and found this:

I get no problems with that in IE7 on XP SP2 here. I did a quick search on

Thank you to everyone for their help. I will see what I can do. But
IE7 does seem tobe flaky, as is the latest SP2/3 for XP. I'm wondering
if my version of Media Centre Special edition (or whatever) is
compatible with these updates (for XP and IE? Windows and underlying
OS also seems to be flaky now. I have never had problems with the
touch pad device dlls before I installed the SPs.

Anyway I will report back in case others are having similar problems.
