When I try to open any web site I get a dns error. My Outlook works to my
email provider and I can ping by dns name such as yahoo.com. Tried netsh
winsock reset but no luck. Any ideas ?

That can be a symptom of a misconfigured firewall.
Try using the Windows firewall only.

Windows firewall was off but did find that Norton internet security was
installed and I could not access it to look at its settings. So, I
uninstalled Norton (can't stand their IS package anyway) and IE6 worked.
Maybe the firewall was messed up ??? Downloaded just Norton
anti-virus/spyware and all is good.
