Red X on pages in Win2KPro machine with IE6 and FireFox PDF viewer

Hi all,
Further to my post elsewhere on this forum, it has been suggested I post
specifically in the Internet 6 section - so here goes!
I keep getting the Red X in a white box on many downloaded pdf pages which
wont then open
BUT the same pages open perfectly on my old 98SE machine with same FireFox
viewer and also on my XP laptop machine - so why wont they open on this Win2K
Pro machine ?it has IE6, AVAST A/V,Malwherebytes etc so I know its clean.
Any ideas?
