Discussion:
Not clearing history fully in Internet Explorer?

Not a great problem, admittedly, but I am very curious!

I always clear down internet files and history trails after every
session, through the usual places plus one or two other places that
seem to store odds and ends once in a blue moon (e.g. if my PC crashes
and things aren't indexed 100% as they should be, so need manual
intervention to get strictly tidy.)

However, there are 2 sites, the memory of which are still SOMEWHERE in
my PC. I know this because when I type in a URL in Internet Explorer,
it does its "attempt at prefilling" routine, and every time they come
up! They are not especially significant pages - in fact one is a BBC
(TV) page, no more or less special than any other BBC page.

I clear down the "forms" entries too, but it still comes up. I thought
about doing a search : "show me all files containging http: etc." but
of course the address will be held as a number won't it?

I'd love to know what Windows file is storing these two mysterious
URLS!

Clearing History does not affect typed URLs (AKA MRUs).

No but it might be stored as a doublebyte character string, e.g. Unicode
which would make searching by Search Companion unhelpful.
In that case you could use, findstr /s /m /i in a cmd window.
E.g. to search for files containing either upper or lowercase variations
of BBC in Unicode you would enter: findstr /s /m /i ".b.b.c" *

Is the BBC URL one you used when making a "subscriptionn"
for offline viewing? E.g. Check %windir%\Offline Web Pages

Another way to see where AutoSuggest may be getting stuff is
to generate a list of Visited: URLs immediately after clearing History
e.g. in a cmd window enter commands:

cd /d %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\History\History.IE5
and
find /i "Visited:" index.dat

No. I don't subscribe to anything - don't trust it! It was actually a
BBC page reporting on the Eurovision Song Contest. (Oh, the shame of
it!!!)

Thanks for the tips. I've not entered commands like that before, but
I'll certainly give it a go!
