In IE, if I File-->Save As an html page to the desktop, I get not only the IE
icon with the name of the link, say "Google", as well as a folder with the
same name. In the folder are gif and jpeg image files, cascading sheets and
Jscript whatevers. Can I delete these files? Why does it do this? The
folders seemingly contain "junk".

Thanks in advance.

You're selecting Save As | "Webpage, complete" and no, you can't delete the
"junk".

Try selecting "Web Archive, single file" or "Webpage, HTML only" instead.
