I had ie8, uninstalled it to get foxfire, then was left with ie7. I finally
figured out how to uninstall it, but now am left with ie6, which not only
does not have an uninstall option on "add/remove programs, but also comes up
automatically when I start my computer. How do I uninstall ie6?

You can't uninstall it..it's built into the operating system.

Just to second what Tom wrote

It is a part of your Operating System and cannot be uninstalled. Of course you can
make Firefox your default Browser and IE will not open . But you will still need IE
for accessing the Windows Update to install Security Fixes

You can remove access to IE6 in WinXP but you cannot uninstall/remove it.
