IE 6 opens my local *.htm page okay - but when I click to go to any external
link (like www.cnn.com) it suddenly crashes and closes. And if I right click
to open in a new window, it tries to load, but just about when the window is
fully loaded, it crashes and closes - and even closes the original (local)
IE window.

I have all WinXP Home updates and patches thru SP3. Help!

Any ideas to correct this would be greatly appreciated.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

Okay - after a LOT of time running Trend Micro's Housecall (Internet-based
antivirus) it seems to work aok now.
Looks like I had a Trojan Horse (plus some spyware) which is now gone. But
why AVG didn't catch it I'll never know.
I did not disable all non-Microsoft add ons as was suggested, but I'm now
aware of this option now. Thanks all for the help.

Hi, try these two things. First clear your cahe. Go to tools, internet
options, delete, delete all, check the check box and select OK. Now your
cache is clean. Secondly a third party non Miscrosoft add on may be an
issue. Go to tools, manage add ons. Go through and disable all non
Microsoft add ons. close out and try running IE this way without the add
ons. Let me know if this helps.
Best Regards,
Kaja
