While I still think your original problem wasn't caused by anything in
IE6
or IE7, you really screwed the pooch by deleting IEXPLORE.EXE. So the
first
order of business is to get IE back. See...

Uninstalling IE7 automatically returns the machine to IE6.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-1. Open Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs and
make sure
the Show Updates box is checked.
2. Now scroll down & look for "Windows Internet Explorer 7".

Post by Loring HutchinsonHow did I remove IE6 As soon as you asked that question I know I
screwed up. I went to the control panel, did not see IE listed, so I
went to my hard drive (C) and deleted it.
Ick.
1. Uninstall IE7 via Add/Remove Programs EXACTLY per the instructions
here:
http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html
[Only use the "%windir%\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe" techniqute if you
cannot
uninstall via Add/Remove Programs!]
2a. If you cannot uninstall IE7, see this KB article:
How to perform a repair installation of Windows XP if Internet
Explorer 7 is
installed:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917964
2b. If you can successfully uninstall IE7, is IE6 fully functional?
Post by Loring HutchinsonAt present I do not have an anti virus installed. I tried to download
an update to Norton 360 a couple of weeks ago and I could not get it
to finish.
Double ick. When did you install Norton 360? Is your subscription
current?
Did you upgrade to Norton 360 from an earlier Norton application
(e.g.,
Norton AntiVirus 2006), or was another Norton application ever
installed on
the machine since you bought it? Was a McAfee application ever
installed?
Everything above notwithstanding...

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to
use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware
with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in
admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Windows version? Current IE version? How did you "remove" IE6?
What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party
firewall
(if any)?

I hope I can stop bothering you but I have one (?) last question
before I take the computer to the shop.
I went to the site you told me to
Post by Loring Hutchinsonhttp://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378
Following their instructions I did not find the
le.inf file in the place it was suppose to be.
Any further comments ?????
