When I pushed the search button on IE6 I got a box that I could change
search engines. I must have got something from Microsoft because all I have
now is Live Search with a windows logo. Does anyone how to change it back?

The key phrase for this symptom is "Search Assistant" aka srchasst...

All you should need to do is use the Reset Web Settings button.
Here are some additional details about that...

Hi Robert and RoBear,

They have removed the Customize Search Dialog from their servers, which is
reached from the Customize button on the Web Search Side bar in IE6.

http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchcust.htm

I have raised a ticket at connect and asked them to put up a meaningful
message and or also a Fixit button to disable the Customize button on v6
browsers.

https://connect.microsoft.com/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=446515&SiteID=470

We had problems with this 2 years ago when they moved support to Beijing and
users were only being offered Chinese search providers.

Regards.

Enter.
2. Select the General tab, and in the Temporary Internet files window, click
"Delete Cookies", and click OK.
3. In the same tab click Delete Files, check the "Delete all offline
contents" box and click OK.
4. Click the Programs tab, and click "Reset Web Settings".

Robert and PA,
Thanks for your help, looks like I am good to go.

How mant people do you suppose are like me and holding on to EI6? I never
liked the way IE7 was laid out. Have you all tried 8? Guess I will have to
make the switch sooner or later. Never went for Vista XP Pro worked so well.
But I guess I will try the new one.

YW & thanks for your feedback.

I would recommend upgrading to IE7 for its enhanced security but if your
dislike of IE7's "layout" trumps any security concerns you might have, so be
it.

If you disliked IE7, steer well clear of IE8! (Go to Windows Update |
Select CUSTOM & scan | unchecked then "hide" IE8 & then install any critical
security updates offered.)

There will come a time when your WinXP boxes kick the bucket. Assuming you
purchase a new Windows computer, it'll include IE7 (if Vista) or IE8 (if
Windows 7) by default.
