IE 8: open in new tab?

Just installed IE8 in XP SP3.

When I open a webpage from the "history" of a previous day, it open over the
tab I am on, overwriting that previous page. How do I make IE 8 open links
(and other things) in a new tab?

Can IE 8 also be made to open by reloading the previous tabs open when it
was closed?
