Discussion:
Hide/disable View menu

Hi,
Running IE 6 SP3. I need to hide/disable the View menu. When using
Explorer or IE on a TS, users can access other network resources if they tick
the Folders option of the view menu, that is why I need it hidden or disabled.
For those who know GP, it is not there. I searched a wide range of internet
resources but nothing did the trick. However, I found a link in this forum
that did the thing with a registry hack. The link is:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?query=hide+view&dg=microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser&cat=en_US_64661a5c-a712-4bde-8131-45fb3ead8e70&lang=en&cr=US&pt=&catlist=&dglist=&ptlist=&exp=&sloc=en-us

The class ID in that link does NOT exist in my registry. I presumed that
having a different service pack other than the one in the link might be the
reason.
My question is: what is the registry class ID i have to delete to entirly
hide or even disable the view menu?

Thanks
Yba

Do you mean this? {EFA24E61-B078-11D0-89E4-00C04FC9E26E}
I see it in IE6 (WinXP SP3) in:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Explorer
Bars\{EFA24E61-B078-11D0-89E4-00C04FC9E26E}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{EFA24E64-B078-11d0-89E4-00C04FC9E26E}

and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell
Extensions\Approved

What operating system are you running that you do not see these keys?

I think it was pretty clear.
Anyway, thanks to Mr. Ed's help, my life got a bit easier on that side.
Here is another thing though.
Again in IE, I removed the Address Bar and disabled (through GP in AD) the
customization of the Toolbar menu. When I run IE, it works as expected for
the account I used to do that task. Other users, however, can still see the
address bar, and that is a flaw.
Have I missed something in the GP? Or, if it is easier and faster to do in
the registry, what is the key to hide/disable the Addess Bar.

I have never used GP but if you want to try the Registry, look at
these:
(NoAddressBar in the first one perhaps?)

The restrictions that are available to Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1

Internet Explorer Restrictions (All Windows)

Hi,
That did the job.
However, because this is running on a server, there is that security alert
that pops up when a user opens IE for the first time (Enhanced Security
Configuration). The alert asks if the site to be added to the list of
trusted site. After the site is added, another infomation box shows that
speaks about features of ESC. Because of that alert, I guess, the address
bar shows. When I add the site to trusted sites, log off and log on again,
the address bar does not show any more.
How can possibly disable that ESC aletr?

Thanks

Being psychic Alan? OP's link was not a CopyURL (just a Search Results)
so what did you have to do to know what he was talking about?...

Ah. This one from Rob Parsons?
