IE6 error 0x0000005

The following error occurred while surfing the net and now appears when
trying to start IE.
The application failed to initialize properly (0x0000005) Click on OK to
terminate application.

I have uninstalled IE and reinstalled and get the same error. I have run
PCCILLIN for spyware and viruses, non found. I have also run pestpatrol.
Any help would be appreciated.

I had this same problem and was able to fix it by deleting the following
registry key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RPCKDM]

Be sure to make a backup of any key before you delete it, just in case.

Thanks Bruce,

I wonder what RPCKDM actually is but in looking for help on this "unknown"
Microsoft issue I have found hundreds of Windows 2KPro users out there
suffering what would appear to be a somewhat common problem.

So far none of us know what's putting that there either.

Here may be something to try: In your Control Panel, open the System control
panel applet. Click the Advanced tab and, under Performance, click Settings.
Click the Data Execution Prevention tab. Change the Data Execution
Prevention ("DEP") setting to "turn on DEP for essential sevices only" and
OK out of the control panel. Try again. Can also look for
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RPCKDM]
and delete it if it exists.
