I have W2K with latest updates and IE6
I noted the existence of several jave updates in system
Can the old ones be deleted and just keep the latest?
Like does the latest update(17) have ALL the previous fixes in it?
TIA

It's a known fact that if you have older versions of the Java JRE
installed on a system, that you WILL be vulnerable to any exploit code
that you encounter while surfing the web that is targeting those older
JRE versions.

The Sun Java JRE installer will NOT un-install older versions of the JRE
because you might be running apps that rely on having a specific JRE
version. This is more true of corporate situations rather than home or
soho.

So yes, for the vast majority of windoze systems, it's highly
recommended that you remove all old versions of the Java JRE and only
have the most recent version installed.

I don't know if Win-2K came with any version of Microsoft Java (win-98
did). It's highly recommended that you remove that as well.

Go to this web-site to test your current Java JRE version:
